Local charity organisation, Esperança Foundation says need has risen by 60 per cent

The Esperança Foundation said they will continue to assist those who need it most during the lockdown.

The Esperança Foundation has vowed to continue helping those who need it most during this trying time.

More than 80 families depend on the assistance of this organisation and the generosity of the community.

Yolandi Pestana from the organisation explained why they decided to continue assisting the community during the lockdown. She said the need for assistance in the community has increased by almost 60 per cent.

“Many people can’t work during this time, and some of the people we help are elderly, disabled and children,” explained Yolandi.

They do not only help out with food, but also where there is a definite need for instance with clothes and other necessities.

Places like Villa Gloria and Kleinvallei also get assistance from the non-profit company, which is run by Yolandi and her colleague, Sarah van Rensburg.

The two women are currently in desperate need of any fresh or non-perishable food, winter clothes, blankets and any financial contributions to continue assisting those in the community.

They get food from different organisations including Woolworths, and have to drive far to collect the food every second or third day.

“So many families are in need, and we do not have the means to help them all. It is so frustrating,” explained Yolandi.

This sentiment is shared by many other organisations, such as the Cradle of Hope and the We’re Against Starvation (WAS) Foundation that post on Facebook daily about the struggle to feed everyone – sometimes not being able to assist everyone who waits in line for food.
