Covid-19: Combined number of cases for West Rand and Region C now stands at 84

The number of active cases in the province now stands at 411 with 781 recoveries and seven deaths reported

The Gauteng Department of Health has announced that the number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in the province now stands at 1 199 as of Tuesday, 21 April.

It has further been reported that 781 recoveries and seven deaths have been confirmed in the province. This means that there are currently a total of 411 active cases in the province.

From the total of 7 013 contacts traced, within Gauteng, who have been in contact with Covid-19 positive patients, 2 973 have completed the 14-day monitoring period with no symptoms reported and they have now been de-isolated.

Provincial breakdown per district is as follows:

  • Johannesburg – 712
  • Ekurhuleni – 257
  • Tshwane – 125
  • Sedibeng – 11
  • West Rand – 40
  • Unallocated cases – 54

The unallocated cases refer to confirmed cases in Gauteng that are yet to be allocated to one of the five districts in the province.

Allocating Gauteng cases to respective districts is still ongoing. After obtaining further information on contact numbers, and addresses from law enforcement agencies, provincial outbreak teams and the National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD), the Department of Health has been able to make corrections where a case might have been incorrectly allocated to a particular district.

Information on cases pertaining to sub-districts has also been released:

Region C – 44 cases
Roodepoort, Constantia Kloof, Northgate, Florida, Bram Fisherville

West Rand – 40 cases
Mogale City – 30
Rand West City – 8
Merafong City – 2
