Dagga nursery found at house in Aureus

Police uncover major dagga cultivation system at an Aureus home.

A 33-year-old man was arrested after police discovered a dagga nursery at a house in Aureus on Saturday, 18 April.

Sergeant Gloria Maswanganye, West Rand District Police spokesperson explained that members of the West Rand Public Order Policing and Flying Squad were doing their routine crime-prevention duties and ensuring compliance with the national lockdown regulations around the West Rand area.

“While busy performing their duties, they followed up on information received from West Rand District Crime Intelligence that led them to the particular house in Aureus in the Randfontein policing precinct.

There, they discovered a hydroponic cultivation system, with dagga plants and bags of manure.

“A male suspect was arrested and charged with manufacturing, dealing and cultivating dagga without a permit in terms of the Drugs and Drug Trafficking Act 140 of 1992.”

Major General Fred Kekana, the West Rand District Police commissioner, welcomed the arrest and urged the community to continue working with the police to ensure the safety of all the citizens on the West Rand.

He also issued a stern warning that dealing in dagga is illegal.

“The police will act against anyone selling and/ or cultivating dagga without a permit.”
