Covid-19: Confirmed cases on the West Rand now stands at 38

The province of Gauteng has reported 545 recoveries from Covid-19 in the area

The Gauteng Department of Health has announced that as of Saturday, 18 April, the number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Gauteng is 1 101, with 545 recoveries in the province. 

Allocating Gauteng cases to respective districts is still ongoing. 

The Department stated that after obtaining further information on contact numbers and addresses from law enforcement agencies, provincial outbreak teams and the National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD), were able to make corrections where a case may have been incorrectly allocated to a particular district. 

The breakdown within Gauteng is as follows:

* Johannesburg – 660

* Ekhuruleni – 223

* Tshwane – 117

* Sedibeng – 10

* West Rand – 38

* Unallocated cases – 53

There have been six confirmed deaths in the Gauteng Province.
