99 new cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed bringing the total in SA to 2272

Two additional deaths due to Covid-19 has been confirmed

Following the National Command Council Meeting today, President Cyril Ramaphosa has mandated the Minister of Health, Dr Zwelini Mkhize to hold a live ZOOM public engagement to deal with technical aspects relating to the country’s Covid-19 response.

This meeting is currently is session and is joined by experts on Covid-19.

The Minister of Health has announced that the current number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in South Africa is 2272.

This is an increase of 99 from the previously reported cases. He further stated that 83 663 tests have been conducted, of these, 21 190 are from the public sector.

Dr Mkhize further stated that he is saddened to announce two additional deaths due to Covid-19. One is a 68-year-old male from the Western Cape who was in acute respiratory distress and hypoxia. He had underlying concommittent diseases of diabetes, hypertension and chronic renal disease.

The other is a 57-year-old male who was admitted with acute respiratory distress, he was admitted into ICU and his x-rays showed that he could have had Covid-19. He was diagnosed positive and has since died.

This brings the total number of Covid-19 related deaths in South Africa to 27.
