Taxi industry targeted to limit spread of Covid-19

Bekkersdal taxi rank sanitized and now safe for commuters.

Cleaning and disinfecting taxi ranks and vehicles are high priority to government.

On Tuesday, 7 April, the Gauteng Roads and Transport Department partnered with various companies, including OUTsurance, SA Taxi Finance, Clinix Health Group, Anglo Gold Ashanti, and Amscor to carry out the operation. Jacob Mamabolo, the Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport was also in attendance.

“It is to ensure that those who rely on public transport are safe. We want to make sure that we maintain the momentum of sanitizing facilities in the province, and that include taxi ranks, to help contain the spread of the coronavirus.”

He is among the many government officials to warn those not adhering to lockdown regulations.

“Anyone who shows disregard for the regulations is definitely not assisting our efforts to flatten the curve and stop the spread of Covid-19. Let’s save lives,” Mamabolo added.
