Connies donate crates of potatoes to WAWA

At least 500 people in Toekomsrus will have something to eat on their tables after Connie Mulder Centre donated eight crates of potatoes to WAWA.

The Connie Mulder Centre donated eight crates of potatoes to Women Against Women and Child Abuse (WAWA) to help relieve hunger among the less fortunate people of Toekomsrus.

Gordon Henney, CEO of Connie Mulder Centre, said the food donation on Tuesday, 7 April was an act of goodwill, and their contribution to helping those who are in need of sustenance.

“We have a farmer who supplies us and whenever he has a surplus of potatoes, we share it with the rest of the community. By doing this, we are sharing this blessing,” Gordon said.

Enrique Bhana, WAWA centre manager thanked Connies for the kind gesture, especially during lockdown when many people are struggling to make ends meet.

“The initiative will help ease the burden of poverty. We are well aware that there is a great need for food among our people. As WAWA, we say thank you to the initiative the management of the Connie Mulder Centre took,” Enrique said.

“We are living in a society where there is a constant need for food. Some earn a meagre salary and live from hand to mouth, while others often have no choice but to roam the streets in search of food.

“Fortunately, there are people with good hearts who are compassionate towards the poor. Although not everyone can benefit from the initiative, at least 500 people in Toekomsrus will have something to eat on their tables.”
