Another councillor reveals water wastage

Councillor reveals water going to waste on Hartsrivier Street, Toekomsrus for allegedly nine months.

Pule Ramphore, Toekomsrus Ward 20 councillor, said water has been flowing down Hartsrivier Street for at least nine months, without the municipality coming forward to attend to the problem.

Ramphore is the second councillor to report water being wasted in the area recently.

On 2 April, the Herald reported Gerald Samson, Toekomsrus Ward 10 councillor saying that heavy water leaks were driving him and all the other residents up the wall as it is a waste of an essential resource the Rand West City residents need.

Ramphore said despite the issue being raised in several Integrated Development Planning meetings (IDP), clean and pure water resources, which are needed in all of Toekomsrus, are going to waste into the drains.

“After reporting the matter, I was promised that it would be prioritised and that it would be part on the rehabilitation programme with other issues. Unfortunately, that was never the case. They only focused on other problems and neglected this one,” Ramphore said.

“We are truly disappointed by the municipality once more as they have allowed this problem to last this long. It doesn’t help that some problems have been resolved, while this one has been neglected. This is worrying because I am sure by now it amounts to millions of rands going straight down the drains,” Ramphore said.
