The crime report for their client base revealed that six incidents of break-ins were reported in Randfontein and Westonaria.

“Two successful arrests were made. One suspect was arrested for breaking in and another for common theft.”

He added that in half of the incidents, vehicles batteries were stolen.

“Motor vehicle batteries are definitely targeted,” he added.

In addition, another mini substation in Bekkersdal was broken into and circuit breakers were stolen from a mini substation feeding a school in the area. On Monday, 30 March, an electricity mini substation was vandalised in Aureus and on 4 March, the Herald reported that two mini substations in Helikon Park and Greenhills respectively had been stripped of their components on Saturday, 29 February.

Krogh revealed another two incidents of damage to property in Aureus and Westergloor respectively, while there was a case of trespassing in contravention of a domestic violence interdict in Westonaria.

“We urge clients to remain vigilant during this period as we expect gate motor theft and theft of batteries to continue, and most possibly increase. We further expect break-ins into unattended and closed businesses, schools and churches to increase.

“We will increase patrols in the areas where these types of crimes took place, and at the above-mentioned institutions,” Krogh concluded.
