Some primary health-care services curtailed to reduce overcrowding

West Rand Health District announces that services at primary health-care facilities have been curtailed. See list here.

The West Rand Health District announced that services at primary health-care facilities had been curtailed with effect from Monday, 6 April until further notice.

According to Thuso Montwedi, spokesperson for the West Rand District Health Services, Covid-19 remains a highly infectious disease and can be transmitted easily in a crowded environment.

He said recognising the need to reduce overcrowding in health-care facilities and to protect the well-being of the West Rand community, the District Health Service committed to curtailing some public health-care services.

From Monday, 6 April, clinic services will be affected as follows:

• No immunisation services will be provided until further notice

• Allied services will be suspended until further notice (rehab and social services, nutrition and eye care etc., except emergencies and acute illnesses)

• Cervical cancer screening will be suspended until further notice (Pap smear)

• Clinics that will not offer secondary mental health services are Muldersdrift Clinic, Dr Martinez Ramirez Clinic (Munsieville), Mogale Clinic, and PJ Mare Clinic (Toekomsrus)

Montwedi added that all clinics will operate from 7.30am to 4pm from Monday to Friday (except 24-hour clinics), and only one person will be allowed to accompany a patient, if necessary.

“Together we can stop Covid-19,” he said.
