She stated that the well-being of those who visit their retail centres is their highest priority and in developing their strategy to combat the spread of Covid-19, they are taking guidance from the World Health Organization (WHO), the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD), and both local and national government directives.

Khethiwe added that considering the SASSA grant pay-outs from 30 March to 3 April 2020, they are assisting with seating, dedicated for pensioners and individuals with disabilities.

“The provided seating is spaciously positioned away from another and sanitized as shoppers move down the queues. We are also managing our shoppers queuing to be adequately separated and adhere to the social-distancing regulations. The Department of Health also came on board to administer flu vaccinations, especially for pensioners.

“To safeguard both our shoppers and the invaluable staff who work at our shopping centres, we are reinforcing our hygiene and sanitization regimes by implementing the highest standard of cleanliness and hygiene possible, with additional stringent precautions, and procuring hand sanitizer for sanitizer stations to support personal hygiene.

“We would like to reach out to our Village Square shoppers and assure you that we are committed to playing our part in preventing the spread of Covid-19. We have received valuable assistance from the police, CPF and South African National Defence Force and are taking all the necessary precautions to make sure that Village Square remains a safe space for you, your loved ones and the community we serve,” Khethiwe concluded.
