No room for criminals in R’fontein as 105 arrested in one day

Operation Okae Molao held in the Randfontein Policing Precinct during lockdown yields results.

Police on the West Rand arrested 105 suspects during Operation Okae Molao held in the Randfontein Policing Precinct on Wednesday, 2 April.

According to Constable Lucky Matome, the West Rand District Police spokesperson, the operation was conducted from 5am until 2pm, and was aimed at restoring the rule of law.

“As crime and violence continue to be a pervasive and costly challenge in the district and the region, through the stewardship of Major General Fred Kekana, the West Rand District Police commissioner, [the police have] mobilised all available resources to increase the prevention efforts based on a clear understanding of the complex circumstances that fuel this reality.

“Prevention is crucial in reducing crime and violence within the West Rand region. It is the constitutional obligation of each and every police officer to ensure that the security of the citizens and their properties are not compromised.”

A total of 105 suspects were arrested for a variety of crimes.

Constable Matome said those arrested were involved in a variety of crimes, ranging from murder, attempted murder, business burglary, possession of drugs, theft from a motor vehicle, escape from lawful custody, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, to intimidation.

He added that all arrested suspects will appear in the Randfontein Magistrates’ Court in due course.

Operation Okae Molao was aimed at restoring the rule of law and dealing with all forms of lawlessness.

Major General Kekana concluded, “Our commitment to restoring the dignity of our people, and providing a safe and secure environment for them to prosper in, will be our first priority. That shall not be compromised by any person or situation.”

He further thanked and expressed appreciated for all officers and stakeholders who participated in the operation.
