Local church goes digital

'We can see that this is the time when God will bring families together again'

With no large group gatherings allowed due to the nationwide lockdown, churches for one have now been forced to go digital and broadcast their services online.

According to Nita Coetzee, spokesperson of Betesda Bedieninge church in Uitvalfontein, “It is a difficult time for the nation. Christians are approaching Easter weekend that commemorates the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

“Social media platforms will never be able to replace sharing worship and the Word of God in the church building with the congregation, but we can see that this is also a time when God will bring families together again.”

She added that lockdown or no lockdown, they will still celebrate Easter.

“Our services for Easter weekend are Good Friday from 9am and Easter Sunday from 9am and 6pm. During our service on Friday morning, we will be sharing communion and are encouraging our congregation and people who will be watching our service to share it with their families,” she said.

Nita explained further that they also have a competition running on Facebook and Instagram during lockdown, whereby you are invited to share a recipe.

“It must be an easy recipe that does not require many ingredients. We will draw a winner every Friday. The winners will get a food hamper, which will be delivered to their houses,” she added.
