Traffic police in full force during lockdown

Chief of the Rand West City Traffic Department issues stern warning to the public during lockdown.

The public has been warned that law-enforcement agencies will join hands and be out in full force the next three weeks.

Kenny Mampondo, Chief of the Rand West City Traffic Department said their operations will be collaborated with other agencies to ensure that there is compliance by the public.

Mampondo said this is in line with the programme outlined by government.

“The sole purpose is to control the situation the country currently finds itself in. We will be out and about to make sure people follow the rule of law and the provisions of the National Road Traffic Act 93 of 1996.”

Mampondo also dispelled rumours that breathalysers will not be used, saying misinformation has been circulating on social media.

“We have not yet received any directive regarding the use of breathalysers, but people need to know that mouthpieces of breathalysers are sealed and sterilised all the time.”

Mampondo also warned people that blood specimens will still be drawn and if people are found to have consumed alcohol over the limit they will be arrested.
