Dog poisoning on the rise — Mapogo

Residents urged by Mapogo to be vigilant as dog poisoning rises.

Dog poisoning is on the rise in Randfontein, said Mapogo A Mathamaga security.

According to Herman Coetzee, the security company’s Operations Manager, they wish to warn Randfontein residents that they have been experiencing an increase in dog poisoning over the past three weeks.

“In total 11 cases had been reported to us, of which six were in the past week,” he said.

Herman urged all pet owners to be vigilant and do all they can to prevent their animals from being poisoned.

“All the poisonings were found to be by means of Aldicarb, also commonly referred to as Two Step. Watch out for any meat or food item lying around outside as it may be poisoned,” Herman said.

He added that some common pointers to look out for in dogs are the following:

• Nausea

• Drooling

• Tearing/ lacrimation

• Vomiting

• Diarrhoea

• Bloody vomit

“If any of these signs are noticed please take you pet to the vet as soon as possible,” he concluded.
