Boy lured with R100 goes missing, found a day later

'The child was lured with money to accompany the stranger' – local police.

A six-year-old from Bekkersdal who had allegedly been kidnapped was found safe and sound on Sunday, 8 March.

Police said after the boy had been missing for 25 hours, a passer-by found him in an open veld in Borwa and immediately alerted the police.

“He was believed to have been with three other boys at the time of his disappearance,” said Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, adding that the boys were approached by an unknown man who asked them for directions to Simunye.

“After the boys had given the man directions, he took out a R100 note and told them that if one of them would take him there, he would get the money.”

While the six-year-old was found unharmed more than a day later, there was no sign of the stranger.

Lieutenant Colonel Andile Moshani, acting Bekkersdal Police station commander warned parents to be more responsible.
