Drugs and cash seized in major bust

Major drug bust, cash seized, fines issued and another 149 arrested during major crime-prevention operations on the far West Rand.

Police in Fochville and across the West Rand arrested 11 suspects for cultivating and dealing in dagga in Wedela on Thursday, 5 March. Cash was also recovered.

According to Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, this was but a drop in the ocean compared to the number of arrests made during a major crime-prevention operation on the far West Rand.

Another 149 suspects were arrested for various offences including murder, hijacking, robbery, theft, kidnapping, assault, fraud, malicious damage to property and possession of suspected stolen goods.

“A total of 75 fines to the value of R71 800 were also issued for traffic violations, and non-compliance by liquor outlets and tuck shops. Two liquor outlets were closed and liquor was seized,” she said.

All arrested suspects are expected to appear in their respective magistrates’ courts in due course.
