Man repeatedly stabbed in street

'They stabbed the deceased repeatedly until the knife broke' – local police.

A 26-year-old man was brutally stabbed and killed in Bekkersdal on Sunday, 23 February.

According to Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, the Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, the victim had been walking with a friend along Tambo Street when they were accosted by two thugs.

“Without saying anything, they stabbed the victim repeatedly until the knife broke. The friend managed to flee. They produced another knife and continued to stab the victim,” Lefakane said.

“The man died of this injuries after he was rushed to Bekkkersdal Clinic. The police were called and after preliminary investigations two suspects aged between 33 and 37 were arrested.”

Lieutenant Colonel Andile Moshani, acting commander of the Bekkersdal Police Station commended the investigating officer, detective Sergeant Shiwe Mokone for his swift response and ensuring that the suspects were apprehended.

“This is a sign of good practice. Let us ensure these perpetrators are convicted and get the sentence they deserves,” Moshani added.
