LSEN learners need your help to go to Cape Town

Learners of a local special needs school off to Cape Town for national championships, but they need your help.

Seven learners of Itumeleng LSEN School need a total of R35 000 each to go to Cape Town to take part in the annual South African Sports Association for the Intellectually Impaired Championships between 23 and 27 March.

Suzan Mothlabane, deputy principal of the school, said although the school is funded to get to the provincial championships every year, they urge local business and ordinary members of the community to help learners get exposure and pursue their sport careers at national level.

She added that the learners outdid their opponents specifically in rowing, hockey, black ball pull, table tennis and swimming during the district and provincial games.

“The only issue is that each of these learners has to pay the amount to cover costs for accommodation, transportation, gear and meals for the whole week.”

She said with just under a month to go, no one has come forward to assist, except Nola.

“We were fortunate to receive a generous donation from them.”

She added, “At our school it is very important to help learners pursue sport because that is the only area they excel in, which may be the only way for them to sustain their lives. By participating in the national championship, we want their talents to be seen and nurtured.

“Therefore, were are pleading to those who can to come to the party and assist us in every way possible to help these learners shine as bright as they can,” Suzan said.
