The Gauteng Department of Social Development, and Women Against Women and Child Abuse (WAWA) held a workshop about gender-based violence (GBV) with men in Toekomsrus on Wednesday, 19 February.
Myrtle Morris, a former social worker, who drove the workshop said this scourge was highlighted in the 2020 State of Nation Address which warranted immediate intervention.
Morris said while interacting with the participants, she established that societal elements such as alcohol and substance abuse, unemployment, aggression, patriarchy and poverty fuel abusive behaviour.
“We highlighted the need to empower men so that this vicious cycle could be stopped,” Morris said.
