South African Police invite applications to become a reservist

Apply to help the police on a voluntary basis

Getting one’s hands dirty is the most direct and meaningful way to make a change. What better way to contribute to the fight against the constant onslaught of crime than helping to bulk up the policing manpower.

The South African Police Service is extending an invitation for aspiring police reservists to submit their applications to join the ranks. A reservist performs voluntary duty for the police without any expectation of receiving compensation for such duty. They perform a minimum of 16 hours of voluntary duty per month, and act as emergency cover in the event of regional and national emergencies.

Selection criteria are strict, and while unemployed persons are not restricted from applying, preference is given to the currently employed. Only South African citizens are eligible and applicants will be subject to medical evaluations and psychometric tests, meaning that mental and physical fitness is paramount. The basic level of education needed is Grade 12 and applicants must be between 20 and 50 years old.

Those with criminal records will not be eligible, as are applicants whose tattoos are contrary to the ethos of the South African Police Service. Men and women of impeccable character and the will to assist police in the fight against crime are asked to visit https://www.saps.gov.za to apply before the 28 February cut-off date.
