Close to 130 arrested in Operation O Kae Molao

Two roadblocks were conducted and Major General Fred Kekana visited both.

Police on the West Rand made 127 arrests during yet another Operation O Kae Molao in the Randfontein policing precinct on Thursday, 6 February.

The operation was led by Major General Fred Kekana, the West Rand District Police commissioner. Other stakeholders involved included detectives, various Vehicle Crime Investigation Units (VCIU), Home Affairs, Saturation Team, Tactical Response Teams, Crime Intelligence, Stock Theft unit, Sibanye Security and community patrollers.

Those arrested were suspected of committing crimes including murder, domestic violence, being in possession of unlicensed firearms and live ammunition, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, dealing in drugs, possession of drugs, possession of dagga, dealing in dagga, dealing in liquor, possession of suspected stolen property, being in the country illegally, being in possession of illicit cigarettes, and illegal mining.

A total number of 59 fines to the value of R68 500 were issued:

• Traffic fines to the value of R29 500
• One fine of R4 500 for dealing in liquor
• One fine of R1 500 for failing to display liquor licence
• One fine of R1 500 for non-compliance with Liquor Act 59 of 2003
• 20 fines for contravening the Tobacco Product Control Act 83 of 1993, and counterfeit goods to the value of R30 000
• One fine of R1 500 for non-compliance with Pharmacy Act 53 of 1974

All arrested suspects will appear in their respective magistrates’ courts soon.

Major General Kekana expressed his gratitude to all involved in the operation.
