Clinic closed for 15 hours due to ‘uncontrollable circumstances’

Services at a local clinic were suspended for at least 15 hours.

Mohlakeng residents were sent to Bekkersdal Clinic after the West Rand District Health Services suspended the services of the Mohlakeng Clinic for 15 hours on Tuesday, 4 February. Services were resumed only yesterday (Wednesday, 5 February) at 7am.

According to Thuso Montwedi, Gauteng Health spokesperson, the closure of the Mohlakeng Clinic was due to ‘uncontrollable circumstances’ that management of the clinic had to resolve.

We will give you a full statement after these issues are resolved so that we do not cause any confusion or unnecessary panic to the community,” Thuso added.

Montwedi added that currently, the situation at the clinic remains normal, but the public will be notified should there be another closure.

Last week, the department issued a statement in response to the dissatisfaction staff members at the clinic expressed about overtime payment, but according to Montwedi, the issue had been raised internally with management of the clinic.
