West Rand women arrive in large numbers for National Scrapbook Day

A total of 94 eager women from across the West Rand came together in Krugersdorp this past weekend for this year's National Scrapbook Day.

Women from Carletonville, Westonaria, Randfontein, Krugersdorp and Roodepoort gathered at St Ursula’s School in Krugersdorp North on Saturday, 2 February for National Scrapbook Day.

A total of 94 eager women armed with scrapbooking totes, Tombow glue, scissors and craft mats supported the initiative.

This year’s theme for the West Rand was Wild West, and oh boy, the ladies went all out!

Michelle van Wyk, organiser of the event, arranged for all the women to bring something to donate to a local charity. This year all donations will be going to the 9th Day Animal Shelter.

National Scrapbook Day is all about bringing your unfinished projects to finish on the day, or to start new ones. It was also a time for catching up with old friends and making some new ones.

And if someone forgot anything at home, or just wanted to treat themselves to some new scrapbooking goodies, four pop-up shops were available.

“It was a creative day and one that everyone will remember. You could break away and leave fiances and husbands at home, and just enjoy some time with your girlfriends. Believe me when I say the ladies had a wonderful time – they could not stop giggling. Maybe they were just very excited, or was it because of the wine that was passed around?”

All the women came together for this year’s Wild West themed National Scrapbook Day.

According to Michelle, it took a lot of planning and prepping but it was all worth it.

“I’m grateful to everyone who came to help and joined us this year. Although the load-shedding was unexpected, all the ladies still made the most of the day.”
