A slippery Railway Road in Homelake caused a local taxi driver to crash into a tree after failing to bring the vehicle under control.

Meshack Gama, 39, said he was travelling on Railway Road in Homelake in his Toyota Quantum on Monday morning, 13 January, when the accident happened.

“It was about 6am. I did not know what was going on when it happened. At first I thought a tyre had burst. I tried everything, but the taxi would not stop. As soon as I crashed, I saw another three vehicles also having difficulty staying on the road,” Gama said.

“The only thing the Rand West City Local Municipality had done about the poor road surface was to pour soil onto it.

“It will cost a lot to have the damage repaired. I do not know who is going to pay for it,” he added.
