2020 school year: GDE announces late registration date

Latest update regarding placement of learners for the 2020 school year by the Gauteng Department of Education.

The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) has officially began operating on Monday, 6 January 2020 in preparation for the opening of schools on Wednesday, 15 January 2020.

“As the Department, we would like to inform parents that the MEC is currently finalising all admissions appeals and responses will reach them by 14 January,” said Steve Mabona, GDE spokesperson.

We are pleased to announce that the Late Registration for Grade 1 and 8 Admissions will officially open on Wednesday, 15 January and close on Friday, 24 January.

“It is important to note that, only schools with available spaces will be availed on the system during the Late Registration Period. Applicants should also note that they will be provisionally placed at the schools that they have applied to.”

Mabona went on to say placement at the school will be confirmed once parents submit the required documents and said there will be no objections and appeals as there are only limited space.

We are working tirelessly to finalise the outstanding appeals and responses to all those who appealed.

“We wish to assure all parents that all learners will be placed accordingly. Parents must note that the outcome of the appeal is final,” Mabona said.

He also advised parents and guardians who submitted appeals to other government offices other than the office of MEC will not be responded to as the appeals process is clearly articulated in the regulations.

“It must be reiterated that only schools with available space will appear on the Admissions Application System,” Mabona added.
