Greenhills service station remains closed, but why?

After nearly a year of not operating, upgrades on the Sasol service station in Greenhills will continue once a new retail licence is granted.

The non-operational Sasol service station on the corner of Kenneth Road and Falcon Street in Greenhills has been a concern to residents for some time.

Soon after upgrades started on the cordoned off premises, it came to a sudden halt. There has been no progress for more than a year without any explanation as to why.

Matebello Motloung, Group Media Relations Manager at Sasol, told the Herald on Thursday, 9 January that a new development agreement to continue construction on the site had been signed with the land owner in December.

Matebello stated that work on the site is expected to resume soon and will take three to six months to complete.

“The new franchisee has applied for a retail trading licence with the Department of Energy, which regrettably delayed completion of this project. Commitment has been made to complete the work as soon as possible once the new retail licence is granted.

“To ensure the safety of the public, the site has been cordoned off completely with high fencing and wrapping,” stated Motloung.
