Rocking around the Christmas tree

On Friday, 29 November, the Rhema West Band turned all carol sceptics into enthusiasts with their amazing Carols by Candlelight set.

There are two types of people: those who absolutely love Christmas carols, and those who can’t stand them.

The Rhema West Band recently turned all carol sceptics into enthusiasts with their amazing set. The Wilro Park Shopping Centre was packed with residents who had come to enjoy the Christmas Market and sing along to everyone’s holiday favourites at the Carols by Candlelight event.

Tables, chairs and a stage were set up in the middle of the shopping centre, with Christmas stalls of all varieties surrounding them. Stallholders sold everything from baked goods and ornaments to dog treats and jewellery; it was the perfect place to start Christmas shopping.

All the tables were packed with families and friends who were enjoying every second of the festive evening. Children danced throughout the open area around the tables and the stage, and a few lucky ones got some prizes. Candles were sold for R15 each, and once they were lit, there wasn’t a dry eye in the house. All of the proceeds from the candle sales went to Dumpsite Ministry, an organisation that feeds approximately 150 children per week.

Everyone was ready and waiting when the Rhema West Band took to the stage and mouths dropped as the first note of the evening was played. The guitarists strummed their strings in a familiar melody but it had an exciting twist. Where Christmas carols usually have a calm and joyful melody, the band surprised everyone with their rock twist on the evening’s songs.

Everyone sang along and many danced together with huge smiles on their faces; a perfect way to enter the festive season.
