WATCH: EPR reaction officer injured in cash-in-transit heist

Steven Pienaar suffered multiple injuries and was rushed to hospital.

Cash-in-transit robbers wounded an EPR reaction officer, Steven Pienaar shortly after 6.30pm yesterday evening, 10 December in Vleikop.

According to Johan Krogh, general manager at EPR, Pienaar was hit when the robbers in three vehicles opened fire with various-calibre weapons on two EPR reaction vehicles, which were driven by Steven Pienaar and Schalk Joubert respectively on their way to the scene.

About 53 bullet casings were found on the scene where the robbers had opened fire on the two EPR reaction vehicles.

According to Krogh, Joubert wasn’t injured in the shooting, but Pienaar was shot twice in his hip.

“He was rushed to hospital where he was stabilised. He is being kept under sedation because of the damage to his pelvis, bladder and colon.”

According to Krogh, Pienaar will undergo reconstructive surgery soon.

Local police have already arrested a number of suspects, and all the necessary services were on scene .
