Grandfather still unhappy with the manhole

The grandfather of a six-year-old boy who fell into an open manhole said he is not happy with the municipality's effort to cover it.

The grandfather of the six-year-old boy who fell into an open manhole on Tulbach Street in October, remains unhappy about how it was closed.

Patrick Otto, 55, described the incident of his grandson getting trapped in the hole on 17 October while walking to a nearby garage as ‘blood-curdling’. He said it took municipal workers a month to put three concrete slabs over the hole to cover it, as they only did it on Tuesday, 19 November.

Otto said it remains dangerous – not only to his family, but to many locals who frequent the street.

“It is an shoddy job and it remains dangerous. As a parent and a resident I remain worried, because the municipality is not serious about giving proper service,” Otto complained.
