‘Enough is enough’ – group about gender based violence

Community members from Westonaria Borwa marched against gender-based violence.

The Simelane Heritage Foundation held a gender-based violence awareness campaign at the Westonaria Borwa Taxi Rank on Saturday, 23 November.

According to Bheki Simelane, director for the foundation, the theme for the day was ‘enough is enough’.

“Next year we should start a community awareness campaign and on the 25th of every month we should all wear the colour orange. This will be a sign that we take a stand against the growing pandemic of abusing women and children,” Bheki said.

“The reason for this campaign is the alarming increase in incidences of abuse and rape in Westonaria. Some cases are reported, but struck off the roll. Some don’t even reach a magistrate,” he lamented.

He thanked the Gender-based Violence contact centre, the Westonaria Clinic, Faded Black Innovations and the community for making the day a success.
