Days left to have your say about NHI scheme

'The NHI will make an Eskom out of the healthcare of all South Africans' – IRR about National Health Insurance (NHI) scheme.

The Institute of Race Relations (IRR) suggested government’s proposed National Health Insurance (NHI) scheme is a disaster waiting to happen.

According to Hermann Pretorius of the IRR, the public has just days left to have their say.

“On Friday, 29 November, public comment on the ANC’s disastrous NHI scheme closes. This scheme will see the end of healthcare in South Africa as we know it.

“The NHI will make an Eskom out of the healthcare of all South Africans. It is undisputed that healthcare and access to healthcare are huge problems the country faces. Every day millions suffer the injustice of being exposed to the uncaring and unaccountable health service provided by the State. Yet, the State has used mountains of regulations to make market-based solutions to our healthcare crisis impossible.”

He went on to say that instead of heeding the shocking failure of NHI pilot projects and improving State-run healthcare for those left to face the consequences of the “disastrous economic policy, the government is determined to manage the healthcare of ordinary hard-working South Africans as it is managing Eskom”.

The IRR said the cruel risk is that just as the State’s management of Eskom leads to load-shedding, its management of NHI will lead to life-shedding.

“South Africans will step up to save the country from the failures inflicted on it by politicians. Together we can stop the NHI – we must.”

The IRR said the video below shows the great danger the NHI poses to South Africans. It includes a link in the description to the page where South Africans register their opposition and say “No!” to the NHI.
