Pay up and help prevent Eskom cutting town’s power

Residents of Rand West City urged to keep on paying for municipal services despite a serious threat that Eskom would cut the town's power this festive season.

The Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM) has urged residents to keep on paying for municipal services despite a serious threat that Eskom would cut the town’s power this festive season.

Speaking at an IDP meeting on 13 November, MMC Selina Moumakwe said the community has to meet the municipality halfway for the service to be provided.

“How will the municipality deliver services when our collection is low? Where will the municipality get the money to deliver such services? Will communities understand when the municipality fails to deliver services? Why are our communities prioritising paying others, but are failing to pay for municipal services?” Moumakwe asked.

She further warned those who were connected to the power grid illegally that they would be brought to book.

“These electricity losses are costing the municipality millions. The community needs to work with us so that those who are illegally connected are exposed and that tough action is taken against the perpetrators.”
