It further reads, ‘Eskom has received substantial submissions by interested parties and is currently in review. This follows the public notice that was published on 18 October 2019. ‘In order for Eskom to meaningfully engage and consider submissions received, it was seen necessary not to proceed as intended’.

According to Dephane Mokoena, of Eskom’s Gauteng Operating Unit, “We will also continue to engage with all the relevant stakeholders and will inform the public by Wednesday, 4 December 2019 of the outcome of the submissions received and the final decision on the matter.

“Eskom trusts that its decision will encourage the affected parties to put pressure on the municipality to meet [its] constitutional, statutory and contractual obligation and make good on the repayment of the electricity debt.”
