Bekkersdal Police arrested a 32-year-old man breaking into his neighbour’s house and being in possession of certain items.
Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson said the incident occurred at about 3.30am on Friday, 25 October. The man was arrested 10 days later on Monday, 4 November.
Lefakane said upon returning from work, the victim found his cellphones and groceries missing.

“He reported the matter to the police. They followed up on the information, identified the suspect and arrested him. The suspect was also found in possession of a stolen cellphone. He faces charges of housebreaking and theft,” Lefakane said.
She added that the suspect is due to appear before the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court soon.
“Housebreakings are among the major crimes reported regularly at our police station. Perpetrators would break into houses during the early hours of the morning and steal small items, including food.”
Colonel Tinus Swart, Bekkersdal Police station commander thanked the victim for working with the police to ensure that the suspect was brought to book, and seeing the process through without withdrawing the case even after his items were recovered.
“Having to do so would have been a complete waste of our time and resources – something we strongly oppose,” Swart added.
