WRDM municipal manager suspended

The West Rand District Municipality (WRDM) has suspended its municipal manager, David Mokoena pending investigations.

Clement Mohlala, WRDM spokesperson, confirmed it to the Herald in a statement issued on Tuesday, 5 November.

“The Council of the WRDM sitting in committee considered ITEM 95 on the Council Agenda, which item centred on the process relating to the recruitment of a Chief Financial Officer. After lengthy deliberations on the matter, the Council resolved amongst others to place the Municipal Manager of the WRDM on precautionary suspension, pending an investigation into possible misconduct. The decision was not in any manner connected to or related to the municipality’s previous investments into VBS Mutual Bank.

“On the same day the Council resolved to appoint Mr E Koloi as the Acting Municipal Manager. All efforts have been taken to ensure a smooth transition from one accounting officer to the other, without destabilising the Municipality and its staff.

“The Municipality wishes to notify the public of the temporary changes in officials at the administrative helm of the Municipality. We wish to assure the community of the West Rand of the Municipality’s commitment to continued and uninterrupted provision of services.”
