Newborn found dumped on Dwarskloof plot

Case of child abandonment under investigation after newborn was found dumped in Dwarskloof Agricultural Holdings on Sunday.

A newborn baby was found dumped but alive in the veld at Dwarskloof during the weekend.

Captain Raymond Sebonyane, the police spokesperson in the West Rand District, said the baby was discovered by a passer-by at about 1pm on Sunday, 27 October.

The baby was rushed to a hospital for medical treatment by paramedics.

“A case of child abandonment is being investigated by the West Rand Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit and the Randfontein Police,” Sebonyane said.

“The police are appealing to anyone that could assist in the investigation to please come forward. Anyone with information can contact the Randfontein Police on 011 767 2300 or Crime Stop Line on 08600 10111 or use our SMS line 32211. You may remain anonymous,” Sebonyane said.
