#JusticForLee: Mashinini to be sentenced on Tuesday

Final arguments heard today

Onke Hartin Mashinini, 29, appeared in the South Gauteng High Court again today, 25 October.

He was supposed to hear his sentence, but it became apparent early on that Mashinini and his legal counsel, were not done with their delaying tactics and mind games.

A packed courtroom heard the testimony of the probation officer, appointed by the Department of Social Development, on the outcome of the mediation process.

While she was testifying, the Defence objected to her portrayal of Mashinini as someone who had no remorse and was not telling the truth.

Mashinini then told his counsel he was ready to talk and tell the truth. Judge Mogotsi decided that the matter should stand down, in order for that to happen.

After waiting for more than two hours, the court reconvened, at which point the probation officer stated that no headway had been made.

Arguments from both the Defence and State citing aggravating and mitigating circumstances were heard and the judge then postponed the matter to Tuesday, 29 October, when he will hand down Mashinini’s sentence.

He will remain in custody until then.
