The RandWest SPCA has made a desperate call to the public for financial assistance.
According to the RandWest SPCA’s Janette Muller, they cover Randfontein, Westonaria and the surrounding areas and are currently experiencing severe financial difficulties.
“The monthly shortfall is a staggering R70 000 of basic operational costs,” she said.
She added that in the past year, the RandWest SPCA staff responded to close to 350 cruelty complaints, issued over 90 warnings, and conducted over 530 on-site pro-active investigations, routine inspections and home-checks.
The SPCA staff worked tirelessly to rehomed surrendered or stray animals, and over 100 stray animals were reunited with their owners. Imagine the impact on your community if the Rand West SPCA had no choice but to close its doors?
“Who would help these animals in need? These are questions we hope are never asked.
“Our staff work under enormous pressure and emotional despair, they experience the worst of what humans can do to animals on a daily basis. The daily cruelty cases leave deep and lasting scars on their psyches. Through their dedication and passion for giving a voice to the voiceless, they work tirelessly to improve the lives of the lost, abused and neglected animals of Randfontein and Westonaria 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
“Overpopulation continues to be a significant problem, and thousands of unwanted animals are taken in annually by every SPCA, which does not refuse admission to any animal. However, there are just never enough resources and homes to keep up with the lost or unwanted animals.
We are urgently appealing to the public to assist us by making a once-off, or monthly donation. You are welcome to donate via EFT, and any and all donations are greatly appreciated.”
