Councillors Cina Erasmus and Peter Dick have explained what the problem was with sewage water running onto nearby farms.
On Wednesday, 3 October, social media was abuzz about the Greenhills waste water treatment facility, and the Herald was inundated with calls about the issue.
According to Peter Dick, the problem that was reported by multiple local farmers and residents is now resolved and under control.

He explained that farmers close to the facility phoned to inform them that sewage was running over the road close to the Greenhills Cemetery. Sewage was also running into the dams from which the farmers’ animals drink.
“On our arrival at the scene, we approached the contractors, who informed us that a manhole outlet had possibly been sabotaged by an unknown source,” Councillor Dick said.
According to Councillor Erasmus, the manhole had been blocked with carpeting, rocks and other sorts of debris.
“Water could not drain out because of the objects in the pipes. For this reason, water had to be released to reduce the pressure and enable workers to remove the debris and solve the problem,” she said.
Both councillors described the above resolution as Phase 1 being completed. Phase 2 is currently in progress.
“There is already a big improvement to the environment,” Councillor Dick added.
