Canopy, groceries stolen in under 10 minutes

What a man thought would be a quick stop while doing shopping had cost him a canopy and groceries valued at more than R1 000.

What Gerhard Julie, 57, thought would be a quick stop while doing shopping, cost him a canopy and groceries valued at more than R1 000.

He said the incident took place on Friday, 27 September in West Porges.

I was in and out of the butchery within five to 10 minutes. I was actually in such a hurry that I only noticed the canopy being gone while I was driving.

One of the bolts, which was used to secure the canopy on Gerhard Julie’s bakkie, that was hacked off before it was stolen.

“I stopped and was shocked to find that the bolts had been hacked off and all the bags with groceries I had on the back of the bakkie were gone,” Julie said.

The shocked Julie urged the community to be vigilant.
