#MunicipalMonday: Water outage, refuse collection issues in Greenhills

VIDEO: For over a week, Greenhills residents said they have been experiencing water outages and garbage piling up.

For over a week, residents of Greenhills have been without water and garbage is piling up in their driveways.

According to Micayla du Plessis, one of the residents, what is even more frustrating is that there is no communication from the municipality and the situation is unpredictable.

“It’s an unpleasant situation. On Friday, the water was off for the whole day and it only came back on on Saturday for a few hours. Then it went off again and back on again on Sunday morning,” she said.

She added that in light of the crisis, her family schedules had to change drastically because there was no way they could know when water would be available.

We have to constantly check the taps, because we need to do basic things such as brushing our teeth. When the water is on, we all try to shower quickly, and tend to other basic needs.

A second resident, Danie Cronje, added, “It’s frustrating because there was no notification on the community WhatsApp groups.

“What we do not understand is how the water can go on and off randomly like this. How does this happen?” he asked.

The water leakage on Greenhills Avenue may be linked to the problem.

Cronje added that this is not only an inconvenience, it’s a problem that may pose a serious danger to appliances such as geysers.

He said what is even more annoying to residents is that for a month, there have been two water leakages on Greenhills Avenue, where pure clean water was getting wasted.

They are pleading with the municipality to intervene and resolve the problem.
