Four killed, five injured in bakkie rollover

Four men died and another five people sustained critical injuries during a bakkie rollover on the R500 on the far West Rand.

Four men were killed and five others left critically injured during a bakkie rollover on the R500 outside Fochville on the far West Rand on Thursday morning, 19 September.

Russel Meiring, the ER24 spokesperson, said they arrived on the scene at about 10.15am to find the bakkie upright in one lane while the trailer was found upside down on the side of the road. Several men were found lying scattered around the scene.

“Medics assessed the patients and found that four men had sustained numerous fatal injuries. Nothing could be done for them and they were declared dead. Five other people, four men and a woman, were assessed and were found with numerous injuries and in a critical condition.

“The patients were treated for their injuries and provided with advanced life support interventions. After treatment, one patient was airlifted by the ER24 Oneplan Helicopter while three others were airlifted by private medical helicopters.”

The details surrounding this incident are not yet known, but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
