#WeRead – Caxton Joburg West concludes book drive – watch!

There's a saying that a reader lives a thousand lives before he or she dies.

Last week both the News and Caxton Joburg West successfully concluded its charity book drive.

Numerous schools, a few businesses and the employees of Caxton Joburg West proved they are a force to be reckoned with once a challenge is brought to their tables.

Many hands make less work and Caxton Joburg West digital assistant Michelle Swart knows it.

Under the auspices of the Caxton Cares banner, the News approached a few schools in the area and Laerskool Krugersdorp-Noord, St Ursula’s School, Laerskool Protearif and Laerskool Muldersdrif answered our call for a second-hand book donation.

African Bank and Donna’s Health and Fitness together with the Caxton Joburg West employees completed the book drive which coincided with National Book Week.

The aim was to help one organisation within Krugersdorp with much-needed reading material. The results were so overwhelming that the News managed to identify three organisations who benefited from the drive.

The Golden Age Village (GAV), Millennium Primary (Millies) and The Cradle of Hope each received a book donation to supplement their libraries.

An estimated 2 000 books were donated, which easily could have amounted to thousands of rands worth of books.

The elderly residents of GAV were delighted with the books and wondered how long it would take them sort them out, while the head girl of Millies Tshegofatso Morgan wrote a beautiful thank you speech, highlighting the importance of reading. Elmarie Hall of the Cradle of Hope expressed her gratitude and said that fresh, new reading material also helps to create another funding opportunity for them.

It was a joyous day of giving when the News and its team dropped off the books.
