Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, the Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, said it is considered a serious crime when a mother decides to carry an unborn child to term, only to deliver it and then dump the child.

Colonel Tinus Swart, the Bekkersdal Police station commander, condemned the act, saying, “Teenage pregnancy is considered a social issue, but there are preventative measures such as frequent educational campaigns, warnings and guidance from parents and various other agencies, NGOs and government departments.”
