Thousands of litres of clean, pure water, fit for human consumption, continue to go to waste in many parts of in Toekomsrus, as the infrastructure is poorly maintained.

Councillor Gerald Samson said as in many other parts of Toekomsrus, the water leakage in Papaja Street has been ongoing for several months.

He said this is compromising the overall supply of water in the entire town.

Thousands of litres of water continue to go to waste due to leaks.

“We are not sure what the problem or the common cause is, but we strongly suspect that it’s due to the lack of proper maintenance, because things like this do not simply happen without any particular reason,” Samson said.

He said in certain instances, the waste results from the theft of various valves, which leaves water spraying down the roads, creating endless pools in many streets.

“The flow of water can also be very damaging to the roads. This is not only detrimental, it is also costing the municipality a lot of money,” Samson added.
