[PHOTOS] West Rand District Excellence Awards honours the best in the West

Hundreds of police officials recently gathered at the Engedi function venue for the annual excellence awards event.

On 5 September West Rand Police officers traded their navy blue uniforms and boots for some glitz and glam at the West Rand District Excellence Awards event.

The awards ceremony was held at the Engedi function venue in Kromdraai. After enjoying some welcome drinks everyone made their way to the spectacularly decorated function hall.

Chaplain Maluleka said the opening prayer and the programme director for the evening was none other than the charismatic Brigadier Mashao, the Krugersdorp Police station commander.

First on the agenda was the individual awards. In this category Randfontein kicked dirt in their competitors’ faces when they finished in the top three of almost all the categories.

HL Mtititi was second runner-up in the Admin Employee of the Year Level 1 to 4 category. Visible Policing (Vispol) Employee of the Year Level 3 to 7 went to CP Mabala and in the Vispol Employee of the Year Level 8 to 12 category. MCE Rautenbach was the first runner-up and NJ Theunissen won this category. CJJ Coombe was the second runner-up for Detective of the Year Level 8 to 12.

Lieutenant Colonel R Pillay from Krugersdorp won the Admin Person of the Year Level 8 to 12, and Senior Admin Clerk JM Brits won in the same category for the Level 5 to 7 employees.

Constable MC Mogale was the first runner-up and BS Segakweng the second runner-up in the Vispol Employee of the Year Level 3 to 7 category, both are from Tarlton. While JS Mohapi from Krugersdorp was the second runner-up in this category. The winner in the same category for employees Level 8 to 12 was DS Maphanga from the West Rand Detectives.

Next up were the group categories and Krugersdorp’s admin was the first runners-up in this category with Randfontein’s cleaners as the second runners-up.

Krugersdorp’s Echo 2 Crime Prevention Unit produced the first runners-up in the Vispol Group of the Year category.

The Krugersdorp Detectives also came second to the Randfontein detectives who won the Detective Group of the Year award.

A special awards was handed to Brigadier Mashao who won the Senior Operations Manager of the Year Level 13 to 15 award.

The Woman of the Year award went to KB Banda from Bekkersdal. This year’s Sportsman of the Year Award went to MJ Henning from Krugersdorp and the Sportswoman of the Year was D Louw from Krugersdorp.

AP Mokgara was the Reservist of the Year and LJ Malatle was the Person with Disabilities for the Year. Then the District Commander’s awards were handed out. In this category the Krugersdorp Community Policing Forum was voted the best on the West Rand this year, Bekkerdal won the Most Improved Police Station of the Year, and finally Krugersdorp was voted Best Police Station of the Year.
