‘Childhood is not a mental disorder’

A seminar was held to raise awareness of psychiatric drugging of children.

On Saturday, 31 August a seminar was held in Tambotie Road, Greenhills to raise awareness about the psychiatric drugging of children as well as mental disorders.

The campaign was organised by Baagi Ba South Africa in partnership with Citizens Commission on Human Rights.

Baagi Ba South Africa is a non-profit organisation advocating for human rights.

According to Glory Matipile, founder and CEO of Baagi Ba South Africa, “As Baagi Ba South Africa and Citizens Commission on Human Rights we say parents have the right to know about safe alternatives for their children, and to ask doctors about non-drug treatments.

“We have met with a lot of parents who complain about their children’s behaviour since they have started taking drugs such as Ritalin. They said they wished that they never listened to their children’s teachers at school and psychiatric doctors, because instead of giving them a solution, they just gave them a higher dosage. This is a sign that psychiatrists are marketing madness.

“Childhood is not a mental disorder, hyperactivity behaviour is not a mental disorder. Love your children enough not to drug them,” she added.
