West Rand Police spokespersons, Sergeant Elsie Tshonte and Captain Raymond Sebonyane, both confirmed to the Herald on the scene in Hillside that a truck, which was allegedly being escorted by the courier company’s own security personnel, was travelling from Johannesburg towards Klerksdorp when it was targeted by an unknown number of heavily armed assailants on the N12 near Westonaria.

“A shooting ensued and a crew member (security officer) was shot dead,” Tshonte said.
