Child hospitalised following freak accident

Nine-year-old child's hand impaled on school's palisade fence.

A nine-year-old girl was hospitalised after what paramedics described as a freak accident at a school in the Carletonville area on Tuesday afternoon (27 August).

According to Russel Meiring, ER24 spokesperson, they arrived on the scene at about 3pm to find that the nine-year-old had impaled her hand on a palisade fence.

“Members of the public had gathered and were assisting the young patient. Medics utilised a grinder that had been brought by a member of the public and began cutting the fence.

“After a short time, medics removed the section of the fence, freeing the girl. The patient was treated for her injuries and thereafter transported to a nearby hospital for further care. It is believed that the girl had attempted to climb over the fence when she slipped and fell.”

The exact details are not yet known.
